Inside This Session:

Ethics are the backbone of the legal profession - and both attorneys and paralegals have a responsibility to uphold them every day. This seminar provides a thorough overview of ethical responsibilities for paralegals and the attorneys who supervise them, focusing on real-world situations and best practices.

We’ll walk through the 25 major ethical guidelines that apply to paralegals, along with how attorney codes and paralegal codes intersect. Participants will learn how attorneys are regulated, what types of sanctions can be imposed, and how paralegals can unintentionally cause serious consequences for a supervising attorney.

Topics include confidentiality and attorney-client privilege, the duty of competence, fee arrangements, conflicts of interest, and the risks of unauthorized practice of law. We'll also explore how a paralegal can "contaminate" a case or law office and how to avoid disqualification.

Finally, the session covers how to recognize and respond to ethical violations, how to stay professionally competent, and how to maintain ethical standards through effective supervision and clear communication.

Whether you're new to the profession or brushing up on your responsibilities, this seminar is essential for anyone who wants to protect their career, support ethical law practice, and maintain client trust.
